Slab Building in Colorado Springs

Slab building pottery classes in Colorado Springs. Roll, cut, and assemble flat clay into functional and decorative ceramics.

Home / Slab Building

Slab building involves rolling clay into flat sheets and cutting, folding, and joining them to create pottery forms. Think of it like working with fabric or paper, but in clay. At Springs Pottery Studio, we teach slab building techniques for making plates, trays, boxes, planters, mugs, and architectural ceramics.

Slab work is precise and architectural. You'll learn to roll even slabs, cut clean edges, score and slip joints, and add texture and pattern to flat surfaces before assembly. It's a technique that rewards careful planning and clean craftsmanship.

Slab Building Classes at Springs Pottery Studio

At Springs Pottery Studio, we teach slab building as part of our comprehensive pottery curriculum. Whether you're exploring this technique for the first time or deepening an existing practice, our instructors will guide you through the fundamentals and help you develop your skills.

All materials are included in our class fees — clay, glazes, kiln firing, and tools. Our studio is equipped with both gas and electric kilns, giving you access to firing options that most pottery studios in Colorado Springs can't offer.
